Obituary for Larry Gordon - Member of Nathanael Greene Base.January 7, 1952 ~ April 19, 2023 

A member of USSVI – Nathanael Greene Base, Larry qualified in submarines on the USS Blueback (SS-581) in 1973 and was a EM2(SS) when he left the Navy

Mr. Larry Gordon, age 71, of Dobson, passed away on April 19, 2023 at The Joan and Howard Woltz
Hospice Home
He was born on January 7, 1952, in Forsyth County, to the late Leonard and Fern Key Gordon.
After graduating from East Surry High School, he served in the US Navy Submarine Service during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he excelled in academics at Surry Community College, followed
by obtaining a master’s degree at Appalachian State University. He was a former Yadkin County
Magistrate and prolific entrepreneur for approximately forty years in Yadkin, Surry, Alleghany,Watauga, and Wilkes County. During this time, Larry started and ran many successful businesses. He was a dedicated Christian who assisted many people over the years. Everyone who knew Larry would comment that he was “one of a kind”.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jan Christiansen Gordon; sisters, Gay Heath and Vickie Lawson
(Junior); niece, Samantha Lawson Truell (Cody); nephews, Tracy Heath and Scott Heath;
stepdaughters, Darla Hoffman (Rodney) and Dana Shaw (Dennis); five step grandchildren; and 11 step
great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bobby Heath.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Cox-Needham Funeral Chapel at 3:00pm
with Bro. George Evans officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment
will follow at Pilot Mountain City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home or Samaritan’s
Purse.
